Irony at its finest. Bob Dylan has a Christmas album? Yeah, yeah he just put it out this week. He’s a master poet and puppeteer and probably blew the mind of his collective fanbase, passerbys included, by choosing to do this. So put that in perspective: I’ve read a bunch of hilarious reviews of this album decrying it’s sub-par nature in context of his catalog of albums. Well… yeah… no shit. It’s a fucking Christmas album. Bob Dylan does a Christmas album and you expect it to hold a candle to his recent masterpieces of original music and poetry, Love and Theft and Modern Times? Lololololol is my reaction.

Anyways, get past that part and then enjoy thinking about the wily smirk the old man has on his face when he sings “Little Drummer Boy” and just enjoy the album. That’s what it’s there for, above all. Oh and make sure you get to “Must Be Santa.” It’s a rollicking good time.

On a more personal note: this is the first time that “Christmas Season” has entered into my head so early due to any sort of positive development. Normally the first time you (I) hear about Christmas, it’s the damn TV commercials that seem to creep in earlier and earlier. It’s obviously not the spirit of Christmas itself that irks me as much as the commercialization of it, which I’m sure many of you can sympathize with. I’m happily surprised that Bob Dylan changed that up for me this year.

Of course, the ubiquitous disingenuous TV ads and “BUY THIS BUY THIS BUY THIS YOU’RE A BAD PARENT/SPOUSE/FRIEND/FAMILY MEMBER/CONSUMER/AMERICAN/CAPITALIST IF YOU DON’T BUY BUY BUY” will be in your face soon enough. I’m happily surprised and totally smitten that Bob Dylan, of all people, got to me before they did.
